Second Opinions and Expert Medical Reviews:

Second Opinion Consultations:  The Harbor-UCLA Faculty Practice Plan is the South Bay region’s leading resource for second and third medical opinions covering the full range of medical problems. Harbor-UCLA has trained many of the doctors practicing in our community, and has historically served as a key resource for second opinion consultations. Our faculty sub-specialists are also available to render consultations for private-pay patients who are seeking second opinions independent of their health plans.

Expert Medical Reviews: Managed care organizations are increasingly implementing mechanisms to provide for expert medical reviews in reference to complex medical cases, rendered by authoritative specialists independent of the patient’s health plan. As many of our doctors are on the “leading edge” of their specialties, they are often called upon to conduct external expert reviews. We serve as a key medical review resource for the national Medical Care Ombudsman Program, based in Bethesda, Maryland, and also perform external reviews for L.A. Care. Our faculty sub-specialists are also available as expert resources to assist local health plans and medical groups in internal reviews, focusing on promoting qualitative improvements in health care outcomes in a cost-effective manner.
